Argentina's doctor has allayed fears that Lionel Messi is struggling with his fitness ahead of the World Cup. Rumours had emerged that the Barcelona star was not 100 per cent fit, but team doctor Donato Villani says all 23 members of Diego Maradona's squad are in 'optimum' physical condition ahead of the tournament.
Villani was speaking after Argentina's training session on Thursday, as Messi had been practicing corner kicks with Maradona standing beside him and talking to his key player.
Argentina kick-off their World Cup on Saturday as they take on African side Nigeria at Ellis Park in Johannesburg. Following a torrid qualifying campaign, Maradona's men are still tipped to go far this summer, and also face South Korea and Greece in Group B.
