JDT INTO SEMI-FINAL AFTER WIN OVER TERENGGANU

MALAYSIA CUP QUARTER FINAL: JDT 3 - TERENGGANU 1

JDT WIN 3-1 ON AGGREGATE

Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) confirmed their place in semi-final of the 2014 Malaysia Cup after defeating Terengganu 3-1 at Larkin Stadium yesterday. Former national captain Safiq Rahim scored a brace to steer his team to join best four of the tournament.

JDT put Terengganu under pressure from the start with their aggressive approach. It took them fifteen minutes to celebrate their opening goal when Safiq Rahim cleverly headed in Nazrin Mohd Nawi's cross.

Terengganu struggled to settle down on the Larkin's pitch, while JDT took full advantage of playing in front of their own fans. Luciano Figueroa doubled their lead in the 21st minute after receiving a perfect pass from Mohd Amri Yahyah. Terengganu held on until the break.

The visitors came on stronger in the second half. They showed signs of improvement and found the net through Mohd Ashari's solo effort in the 60th minute.

As the Turtles were gunning for an equalizer, Safiq Rahim added another goal for the Southern Tigers in the 74th minute. Amri Yahyah turned provider again for the goal. JDT slowed down and defended strongly to ensure their spot in the Malaysia Cup semi-final is secured.

PERAK WINS IN SHAH ALAM

MALAYSIA SUPER LEAGUE: PKNS 1 - PERAK 3 Perak recorded an important 3-1 win over PKNS in Shah Alam yesterday. Norhakim Isa opened the scoring for Perak in the 6 minutes after kick-off. His powerful shot beat Ramezy Che Ros . Perak was really in control. Ten minutes later, Hassan Daher increased the lead for Perak from a freekick. His 30 metres grounder played the trick against PKNS defenders. PKNS did not give up. They managed to reduce the deficit with a goal late in the first half. Perak was really unstoppable. They were hunting for more goals after the break. In the 63rd minute, Ridzuan Azly Husain beat 3 PKNS players before sending a cross for Milan Purovic to tap in Perak's third goal. It was a valuable 3 points for Perak after an exciting away match. Perak could have scored more from many opportunities, but PKNS defended well towards the end. MANCHESTER CITY WIN FIFTH PREMIER LEAGUE IN SIX SEASON

Manchester City bagged their third consecutive Premier League title after Nottingham Forest defeated Arsenal 1-0 on Saturday evening. Under Pep Guardiola, City has won the title five times in the last six seasons. The Premier League is the first of a potential treble this season. They will play against Manchester United in the FA Cup final, and the Inter Milan in the Champions League final next month. Arsenal had an eight-point lead over City in January, but Guardiola’s side have overhauled them with three games to spare. Erling Haaland’s 36 goals in the league have been crucial to City’s success. JDT WINS 2014 MALAYSIA SUPER LEAGUE

MALAYSIA SUPER LEAGUE: SARAWAK 0 - JDT 1 Star-studded Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) clinched the coveted Super League title in style by beating Sarawak 1-0 at the State Stadium in Kuching. Matches played were the final fixtures in the 2014 Super League season which came to a close last night. JDT who finished with 44 points pocketed RM500,000 while second placed Selangor accumulated 41 points while Pahang with 37 points finished third. Selangor finished as the runner-up after managing only a 2-2 draw against relegated PKNS FC at the Shah Alam Stadium. Argentina import Jorge Pereyra Diaz was the toast of JDT after squeezing in the winner in the 66th. Apart from winning the Super League title, JDT also earned a ticket to play in the Asian Football Confederation ( AFC Cup ) for the second time after 2009.
