SIME DARBY SHOCKED ATM

MALAYSIA CUP: SIME DARBY 4 - ATM 3

Sime Darby started their 2013 Malaysia Cup campaign strongly by defeating ATM in a 7-goals thriller at Selayang Stadium. The club side which finished second place in the 2013 Malaysia Premier League displayed a strong attacking play against the more experienced opponents.

Togaba Kontiwa opened the scoring with a simple tap-in after receiving a pass from Karlo Primorac, who initiated a counter attack. Armed Forces were back on level terms in the 16th minute after Firdaus Faudzi, who was under pressure, put the ball into his net.

Kontiwa added his second goal after beating ATM's goalkeeper Farizal Harun. Then Hadzirun Hamid found the back of the net after a spill by Farizal from Fazrul Hazli Kadri's long shot. The first half ended with Sime Darby leading 3-1.

The second half started with both teams playing high tempo game. Sime Darby strikes again as Fazrul headed in a cross from Amirul to make it 4-1. ATM finally realised that Sime Darby is a serious challenger in this season's Malaysia Cup campaign. The Gladiators pushed forwards and Irwan Fadly get ATM's second in the 57th minute. Venice Elphi added a third for a nailbitting finish, but they failed to find the equaliser.
