The 34-year-old former England captain is out of contract at the end of the current campaign and he has taken the difficult and emotional decision not to renew terms. The Liverpool captain, who made his Liverpool debut in 1998, will not move to another English club. The Manchester United skipper also earned his 100th cap and moved to within three goals of Sir Bobby Charlton 's all-time scoring record. Rooney took 27 per cent of the votes from an online poll of supporters club members, more than second-placed Danny Welbeck (11 per cent) and third-placed Raheem Sterling (seven per cent) combined. Vo Huy Toan netted a deserved equaliser in the 32nd minute after a fine counter-attack for the visitors.
